Curiosities

Here you can access some curiosities on themes that are transversal to our work and that, in a way, connect and bring our history closer.

Spices

The term spice or species (from the Latin species), from the 14th and 15th centuries in Western Europe, designated several products of vegetable origin (flower, fruit, seed, bark, stem, root), and a marked aroma or flavor. This is due to the presence of essential oils. Their use distinguishes them from aromatic herbs, of which the leaves are mainly used.

In addition to being used in cooking, for seasoning and food preservation purposes, spices are used in pharmacies, in preparation and oils, ointments, cosmetics, incense and medicines. Historically, these multiple uses have given rise to disputes between corporations - notably between spice and apothecaries. (source: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Especiaria )
